On February 21, 2026, a team of five McMaster MPP students – Taofikat Atanda, Iman Grewal, Sarah Mariani, Renee Pi, and Anna Subotic – competed in the 2026 CAPPA Case Competition. Tasked with creating a new national security policy for Canada, the team joined 12 other teams from public policy programs across Canada in this annual competition.

The McMaster team was lauded for presenting an achievable and fully costed plan that fits within Canada’s evolving security and defense framework. The Arctic, the economy, and preventing foreign interference/disinformation were highlighted as key areas of focus for the strategy.

The team was coached by MPP Executive Director Graeme Stewart and Professor Maria Gintova.

Thanks to the Canadian Association of Programs in Public Administration (CAPPA) for organizing the competition, and congratulations to the Concordia team for coming out on top.
